How To Have Your Very Own IPL Team.
How do you line up an IPL T20 team? What skills & intelligence do you require to assemble a promising if not a winning team? What does it take to be in the lime light? How do you woo your fans? Here is a Three Point View of a winning strategy.
Firstly & firstly one needs an ultra deep pocket, preferably two, because players & Sotheby’s have the same base price tag. Now you don’t want a winning player rather you need a charismatic player. Someone on whom you can bank upon to grab eyeballs & let tongues flutter. Nobody cares about the Fair Play Award everyone is looking forward to mint money. The whole team comes secondary, first comes the Owners. Look at their profile. Moneyed, glamorous, paparazzi friendly, sexy, star power, celebrities, all things lesser mortals cannot equal. The teams are to an extent a reflection of the owners’ persona, not just the best that money can buy. It is a good thing to maintain such an image. It becomes an extension of self. It gives the owner a sense of control over team & gives the team an identity. So you see why a particular player can only play for a certain team from a certain state. Of course this will change as Seasons go by.
That the example of Kolkata Knight Riders. Everyone knows it is a loser team and everybody knows that it is heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan’s team. No matter how many matches they lose they shall remain the most glamorous team. Similarly even if Royal Challengers Bangalore lose money, Dr. Mallya is least bothered about it but fires the team like a corporate boss, be it Dravid or be it Kumble. This is what defines Dr. Mallya. Work means work. And he won’t be a sham at IPL. What happened to Kolkata Knight Riders after season 1? Yes, in season 2 they returned as the richest team. History repeated itself, again they returned as the richest in season 3, albeit, plus-minus a few sponsors. Was it the team performance? No sweetheart, after all his name is Khan.
Now when the worker bees are on the field to work for queen bee how do they win. Cause there has to be some cricket to be involved. The base strategy is quite a simple one. There is no such thing as a good wicket because both teams play on the same pitch. This term came into use in the late 90’s only to increase the vocabulary of the commentators (indeed earlier they use to call it good pitch). Now T20 needs to be played over by over at a pre-calculated pace. Firstly bat for 20 overs and put up a score close to 200, this will only be a breather. Now how do you get there? Make a mark during the first five overs. Talk in the language of boundaries only. This will result in a high run rate, high strike rate, boost your confidence & demoralize your opponent. Next five overs reach a century. If after ten overs a 100 is not on the score board then you have lost it. Uptil the 15th over manage another 30-50 runs & then the last five overs play for glory. The fall of wickets during the entire time should not be a concern to worry as you have 11 players to play. Similarly when the team is chasing a target the fate is decided in the first five overs. Let the bat do the talking. From 5 to 15 overs chase the target comfortably. Then by the 18th over seal the fate of the game.
Lastly comes the girl factor to boost morale. You can’t take a confident face upto a girl after a sad performance of the day. So you do your best to be on the better side of that white single girl. Besides if there are Shilpas, Pritys, Juhis, Nitas, Shamita, Deepikas and a whole clan of White Chicks on your side you would like to show them your best side. Have you ever seen Prity Zinta sulking over the performance of Kings XI Punjab. She never does, kinda like your girlfriend. That keeps the team going. Nita will always be at the dugout but never offer a word of cricket. Shilpa’s lil sis Shamita doesn’t even understand cricket but is there to support Yusuf Pathan. He’s got a big one. The icing on the cake is by Dr. Mallya who got the lean, lanky & sexy Deepika to be the lucky mascot. That his son went after her is another story.

Waiting for more rain..!!
It has been miserably hot and humid in Bangalore for a while now. The rain came out yesterday, but it didn't last. We have had two days of drizzle and it should continue. They are even saying the temperature could get up to 40 next week. I am really tired of summer. Of course, I can't complain too much because Bangalore, where I'm being brought up, has given us good weather.
It is still warm but no longer sweltering, the wind is cooler and the days are getting shorter. There is something about this time of year.. I am beginning to look forward to mixing more tunes and meeting my friends again, I'm even starting to get slightly excited about the Kerala trip.. Can't wait to put on my travel shoes.
I've never been a fan of summer to be honest.. Surely, those first few weeks of sunny weather are nice enough.. but then comes the sweating, the sunburns (which will eventually lead to skincancer, I'm sure) and various vampiresque insects that seemingly live off of human flesh alone. The temperature is high and there's crazy wildlife, AKA insects, looking to feast on your body (Well, I'm Bangalorean, insects are the only wildlife we have.) Come on Rain!!!
